Christmas Preparation at SKD

Updated: Dec 31, 2019

One of the best benefits of a Catholic School is keeping holy the holidays and being able to talk about God! Did you know that 49% say that we need to add Christ more into Christmas? Well... we can at SKD. We started the Advent season by introducing the Advent wreath and talking about how this time is in preparation to celebrate Jesus' birth. We were servant leaders as we organized a giving drive for the Samaritan House and Catholic Charities and helped put tags on the tree and get the gifts from under the tree. We also dove into the lineage of Jesus by making ornaments for a Jesse tree. Students heard bible readings about Adam and Eve, Abraham, Jesse, David, Daniel, Moses, John the Baptist, Joseph, and Mary just to name a few. It's amazing to see 3 year olds tell their families about an old testament reading. In our Atrium we learned about Gabriel coming to Mary and her "yes" to God. The students also worked so hard preparing for our Advent play. They sang and recited memorized lines for our biggest crowd yet. Learning the words to O' Come O' Come Emmanuel was the best part! Thank you to Gabby Christensen for accompanying on the piano. If she can accompany 3-6 year olds, she can accompany anyone!
